Jean Macnamara was born on the 1st of April, 1899. Jean's full name is Annie Jean Macnamara. Her parents were John and Annie Macnamara. She was born in Beechworth, Victoria and moved to Melbourne at the age of seven. She then went to Spring Road State School in Malvern and received a scholarship to Presbyterian Girls College. There she became the editor of the school magazine "Patchwork" and at 15 won the prize for general excellence. Jean then went to the University of Melbourne.
